Recruiting Process
While it's exciting to consider the array of job and career opportunities open to you at this juncture in your life, it can also be rather daunting to face the job search, application and interview process.

Goldman Sachs' recruiting process reflects the synergies between its different hiring divisions and the fact that each division seeks many of the same core qualities in its candidates. Our process also enforces our philosophy that candidates' understanding of the Goldman Sachs culture is as important as the skills and talent they can bring to the firm.

How the Process Works - Applying for a New Analyst Role
Your first interview with us will be a Goldman Sachs 'firmwide' interview and is designed to help us get to know you, and for you to ask questions about us. The interview is held on campus or in our offices with up to two Goldman Sachs professionals. While the interviewers may come from two different hiring divisions, you will not be interviewing exclusively for their respective divisions. Rather, the interview will focus primarily on your past experiences and accomplishments as well as your general suitability for - and interest in Goldman Sachs. You should however be prepared to detail your motivations for the particular division(s) to which you applied.

After this round, we can determine the best match for you among our hiring divisions, based on your skills, experiences, and stated divisional preferences. You may then be invited back for second round interviews with up to two divisions. Second and any subsequent interviews will focus on your suitability for a particular division, and may be more technical in nature. While these interviews will be conducted on a divisional basis, our interviewers will continue to assess your compatibility with the firm's culture as well as your interest in Goldman Sachs and the financial services industry overall.

If you have applied for a specific position, your first interview will be divisional and you are likely to be asked some technical questions.

How the Process Works - Applying for a New Associate Role
At the associate level, your first interview with us will be with the region(s) and/or division(s) you selected on your application. The first interview is designed to help us get to know you and determine your suitability for a particular area of the firm. It's also an opportunity for you to ask questions about us. The interview is held on campus or in our offices with up to two Goldman Sachs professionals from the same division. As a result of interviewing with more than one region or division, associate candidates may receive two separate invitations to interview in a second-round process. During the second and subsequent rounds of interviews, we will continue to assess your compatibility with the firm's culture and test your knowledge of the industry.

How the Process Works - Applying as an Experienced Hire
If you are an experienced professional interested in pursuing career opportunities at Goldman Sachs, please apply via our online application for "Experienced Applicants", which can be accessed from every page on our site. We do not currently publish job openings online, however if we consider you to be a good fit for any of our open positions you will be invited to interview with us. First round interviews for Experienced Hires take place via telephone or at one of our office locations. If you are invited back for second and subsequent rounds of interviews, you will meet with numerous representatives from the division before a final hiring decision is made.

How to Prepare
Use the Career Paths section of our web site to learn more about the Goldman Sachs recruiting and application process. You will find an explanation of how to apply for positions at Goldman Sachs and, for those candidates applying from university or graduate school, the Timeline page explains how the process works throughout the academic year. If you're on campus and interested in attending a Goldman Sachs information session, check with your school's career service center to determine if we will be on your campus this season.

If you are not sure which divisions might be most interesting to you, check out our Where Do I Fit In? Quiz, which asks you a series of questions aimed at highlighting areas within Goldman Sachs that might best match your skill set and preferences, as well as the various features in our Multimedia Center, which can be accessed in the Learning Center.
